Seaside Golf Club’s new owner ‘Links’ Brid with Barbados
Under the guiding hand of Mr Morphet, the man behind the exclusive Royal Westmoreland Golf & leisure resort in Barbados, there are plans to spend millions of pounds upgrading the Bridlington facilities. Mr Morphet said ‘This is one of the best and most well established golf courses in Yorkshire with more than 400 loyal members and we are delighted to be involved in its future.’
Mr Morphet is a former farmer whose portfolio in Barbados includes luxury villas built for celebrities including Yorkshire cricketer and former England captain Michael Vaughan and fellow cricketers Andrew Flintofff and Mike Gatting, boxer Joe Calzaghe, Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam and Manchester United footballers Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney.
The Links already has Luxury Holiday Lodges but Pure Leisure plan to expand with a range of eco friendly holiday homes. Mr Morphet said ‘I am always looking for the silver lining in every cloud and I’m totally confident to put my money where my mouth is and invest in the UK. Bridlington and the whole of Yorkshire will soon become one of the key elements of our Leisure portfolio and we are aiming to put it on the sports and leisure map of Britain.’
The Pure Leisure Group which is based in Carnforth, Lancashire, was founded 20 years ago. Apart from The Royal Westmoreland, it owns the Lakeland Leisure Village and also the Tydd St Giles Golf Club in Wisbech Cambridgeshire.
